Volunteer Screening and Training

Volunteer Screening

To ensure we are providing a safe environment for our 4-H members to Learn To Do By Doing, volunteer screening is a mandatory process for all 4-H clubs across the country.

Each 4-H New Brunswick club must have two screened volunteers, who are not spouses, to be registered. If you have any questions, please contact the office!

Completing your application

New Brunswick 4-H is now using an online platform to house all NB 4-H registrations. If you wish to become a leader, please send us a message and we will help get you conencted with a club.

Once connected with a club, you will be able to register online and complete all documents through the online portal.

Leaders must be fully screened and approved by the Provincial Office before they are able to act as a leader/volunteer.

Volunteer Training

All 4-H leaders must complete the required online training modules. These can be accessed on 4-H LEARNS (www.4-h-learns.org). You will require an account.

  • Commit To Kids Sexual Abuse Prevention Training (2.5 hours)
  • Youth Safety Training (sessions will be done virtually though Zoom and you will receive a link if you need to complete this training.)

Youth Safety Training

  • We want to ensure that 4-H leaders are familiar with the new Youth Safety at 4-H in Canada policies, and they understand their role and specific responsibilities in delivering safe programming that meets youth industry best standards. After completing the training, 4-H volunteers should be able to:
    • Identify the policies outlined in the Youth Safety at 4-H in Canada document
    • Apply the Rule of Two to club settings and events
    • Recognize the steps in planning safe activities and events
    • Recognize when to report concerns of abuse, misconduct, and safety issues
    • Know how to access 4-H Canada policy and resources
    • Know how to access provincial procedures and resources

Youth Safety Training was new in 2020-21. To roll in this requirement, each club was require at least two leaders to complete it. Now, all new and renewing volunteers will be required to complete it as it is mandatory to be register as a 4-H leader.

This course will be offered through Zoom by the executive director. All leaders that need to take this training will be contacted with a Zoom link invite.
